ASLA Membership Qualifications – ASLA NEEDS YOUR INPUT
National ASLA needs our chapter’s input on potentially changing membership qualifications for Full Members and International Members. Please review the Membership Qualification presentation, prepared by National, which outlines the potential changes as well as an analysis of the potential impacts the changes would have on the Society. If you would like to provide comments regarding these issues please see the Chapter Discussion Guide for the specific questions National needs addressed. All comments should be emailed to

Continuing Education Discussion – Recap |
|
Several years ago, the Maryland Chapter board formed a task force to study the possibility of CEU’s for Maryland. On January 5th, the Legislative Committee hosted an open forum to discuss the potential of Maryland requiring CEU’s that involve both MDASLA members as well as registered landscape architects, who were not members. This forum was request by the Landscape Architecture board of the Department of Labor and Licensing (DLLR) as a way to get input from the profession and to identity any concerns related to instituting a CEU program. It was a lively discussion and many views were presented during the dialogue. Many of the attendees were for CEU’s but there were some suggestions of making the programs meaningful and how we can improve the health, safety and welfare of our design professionals, how to document and manage the program, the value that this brings to a designer, the value that this beings to the profession, our impact on allied professions and making the classes affordable. Deborah Schwab and Vernon Hustead presented these findings to the DLLR board on January 18th and addressed questions from the board. Ultimately it is this board that will have the final decision whether the state moves forward with CEU requirements and the decision will take several months to evaluate as the board needs time to evaluate the material.

Alternate Payment Option – Dues Payment By Direct Debit
Why? •Because it’s convenient and automatic. •Because it spreads your dues balance over 12 easy installments. •Because it’s a free benefit to you.
How? •We will post a form on our website that you can submit to National with your renewal notice before your membership expires. Minimum dues payment amount for this program: $150.00. •Monthly installments equal to 1/12 of your total dues balance will be deducted from your account on the 20th of each month—if this form is received after your membership period beginning date, the monthly installment will be calculated on the number of months remaining in the membership year. •Simply fill out the form and attach a voided check (for validation purposes only). Do not attach a deposit slip. •This direct debit arrangement will be in effect for one year only.
